M. Tom Margolis, MD, FACS, FACOG, MIGS, FPMRS
Dr. Tom Margolis is a fellowship-trained, board-certified urogynecologist and female pelvic reconstructive surgeon serving the San Francisco Bay Area. With more than 30 years of surgical experience, he is recognized as a leading expert in minimally invasive gynecologic and urogynecologic surgery.
His specialties include pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and fistula repair. Dr. Margolis regularly performs advanced procedures, including laparoscopic Burch colposuspension, hysterectomy, and other complex gynecologic and urogynecologic surgeries. Physicians throughout Northern California and beyond frequently refer their most challenging cases to him for specialized care.
Dr. Margolis completed his residency at the University of Kansas under Dr. Kermit Krantz, co-founder of the gold standard surgery for stress urinary incontinence, the Marshall Marchetti Krantz procedure. He then completed the Pelvic Surgery Fellowship at Emory University under the direction of world-renowned surgeon Dr. Clifford Wheeless.
Dr. Margolis served on the faculty at Northwestern University before becoming Chief of the Gynecology Division at Stanford University, where he founded the Center for Pelvic Surgery and Urogynecology. He continues to mentor residents, fellows, and practicing gynecologists throughout the Bay Area.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Margolis has served on the teaching faculty at major academic institutions, including Emory University, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as universities in Peru, Ghana, and Uganda. His dedication to surgical education has had a lasting impact on the training of physicians both nationally and internationally.
He has trained pelvic surgery fellows who now practice in academic centers across the United States, Canada, and Africa. He has lectured extensively on urogynecology topics worldwide and published in major peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Margolis has also served as a consulting surgeon to Bay Area physicians for more than a decade. In addition, he leads annual surgical missions to Africa, focused on training and empowering the next generation of local pelvic surgeons in Uganda.

He has trained pelvic surgery fellows who now practice worldwide and continues to mentor physicians while participating in surgical missions that provide care and training in underserved communities across Africa and South America.
